PowerCycle is made by Merida, one of the world's largest builders of premium bicycles.
If you want to ease into an exercise program, run errands or just cruise, the PowerCycle is a fantastic choice.
With hill flattening power the Merida PowerCycle uses an integrated motor and easily detachable battery to multiply your pedaling power. The power assist is strongest when you need it most adding 2.5 times your power when starting and climbing steep hills. There are no complex controls to master.

This type bike is called a Pedalic (pedal electric cycle). To understand the principle it compares to the power steering in your auto. Try parking a car with manual steering. It can really make you sweat.
Now park a car with power assisted steering and you can turn the wheel with one finger!
This is what a pedalic is all about only you are getting the power assist to the pedals with easy work for your legs.

Topeak Chain Tool

If you decide to install the 16 tooth sproket yourself then you will need a chain tool to remove 2 links from the chain. This is the one that we use.
It is universal and will fit most bike chains.

The kit includes (2) 12V 9ah SLA batteries, wire harness with XLR plugs, (2) wire taps, fuse and full instructions.
Easy 15 min installation. Just remove a few screws and take off the plastic panels on the bike, tap into the pos. and neg. wires, plug in the ext. pack and you can now ride an additional 20 miles.
This external pack comes with velcro straps for attaching to the rear rack.
Use your stock SLA charger and plug it into the pack for charging.

NiMH 24V battery charger

This is a Merida NiMH battery charger. It is for Merida bikes that use NiMH batteries.
Note: This will not work on our bikes as they use sealed lead acid batteries. If your Merida has NiMH batteries buy one of these for an extra charger and leave it at your destination to re-charge for the return trip. Double you range to 40+ miles round trip!!
May also be used with any 24V scooter or bike that uses NiMH batteries. Pin #1 is pos.

Powercycle 550 LTD

The Merida PowerCycle 550 LTD has the identical features as the 500 with the addition of front suspension. Due to the suspension the factory front basket is not included.
You can however mount a regular handlebar basket to the front or rear rack.
The added adjustable suspension adds even more smoothness to an already great ride.

The US Senate has passed SR 1156, clearing the way for a legal definition of an electric bicycle in the USA. President Bush has signed this law.
The new law will assign the governance of electric bicycles to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and will define a bicycle that has pedals, (and is capable of being propelled by those pedals) an electric motor of no more than 750 watts, and a top speed (on motor only) of 20 mph as a "bicycle."

The Merida bike is also known as the Lee Iacocca bike. His company "Ebike" buys this bike from Merida with a different fender design, does not include the lighting system, rear rack or seat post suspension and markets the bike under the name "Ebike Stepthru".
